How about we continue to try out RP Only for a couple more weeks and if it picks up, great, otherwise if it gets too slow and boring then we'll start using a meter with some of these RP restrictions. What he said!

Honestly the issue isn't that we need RPers or a Meter it is that we need our Role players to come to sim. at 8PM SLT today i did a count 26 people online in the group but only 7 of them on sim .... some of those online but not on sim were those who lead castes. This upsets me GREATLY if you lead a caste you NEED to be on sim unless your RP takes you off sim. I stand outside often only RPed by Frank, Mahi, My mate, Slaves or Lilu whom by the way isn't even OF LYDIUS I pop into group chat often and get almost no response. I feel that that we shouldn't bend .... if those whom don't come on the sim WANT us to have meter they should come RP here without it first. Other wise they can swallow their words and just not bother. The three big reasons I came to Lydius was my mate's family was here, the build is amazing, and it was unmetered which means people can't rely on meters. It FORCES people to ROLE PLAY which is the point of a ROLE PLAY SIM. I find this to be the issue with gor any more. To many rely on the meter for all their needs "Jimmy pissed me off" /1 draw sword..... "I want that woman to be my slave!" /1 draw sword. No one thinks of things outside the box any more no one thinks "Well Jimmy pissed me off cause he owes me money ICly let me RP beating him up...." If i went to any metered Gor sim and strated Rping as if i was going to beat someone up i would instantly be met with someone jumping into metered combat. THIS is killing SL Gor....THIS is making us all lazy. There was a time when meters were Tools to enhance role play. Now outside a Tavern or Longhall all RP in Gor sims to be tied to a meter fight in one way or another.

I think in SL you can not say that anyone "needs" to be on the sim when they are online. Maybe they are building, out of gor, shopping or doing other things. Not everyone is in Gor only. I am in a different timezone, and the ones I have played with, you might not even have seen them. Sinz, Kyo, Sebby, several strangers to welcome them and the trade I made ic with two other butchers who have delivered me two bosks now. But just because I am online, doesn't mean I will be 100% of that time on the sim only. Want some meat? ? Without combat of course! I'll sell you some!

Intense, my point is we have over 50 people in the group....I don't work and suffer from insomnia so I am online almost 24-7. This I admit. But we have people in the group who don't come to sim at all. A LOT OF THEM. They don't talk in group chat. I go off sim with Nym at times do things off Gor as well. But at the minimum is put time each day into the sim. Sims are a group effort. When I was Commander in Jasna I required of my Scarlets for advancement in rank 1 hour a day of gate/wall duty. I made it clear to them all that it was negotiable if RL or other engagements would interfear. But i set an example by manning the walls and gate every day for at least 3 hours or more. I saw that as fair. As did many but a one who i won't name refused, He instead insisted on doing anything but. He was as a result demoted and eventually booted from the caste.
What did this provide for the sim? Well since the Scarlets manned the gates. It gave visitors someone to interact with almost the moment they stepped off the docks. It Forced Role Play to take place. The men were told to be somewhat civil to visitors for the most part unless cause for otherwise was given. THAT interaction gave the sim, life.
We can't force people to come to sim this is true. But perhaps for advancement in the sim something along those lines might be implemented?
I admit to being some what ticked off for several reasons when I posted last...between my Sports team giving away a win (Have to be passionate about the World Series..after all its the biggest series in American Baseball) , as well as other things. Seeing 25+ people in group but only a few on sim set me off. I want to see Lydius filled with life. A system of rewards for those who take part in the sim might be an idea. Promotion, Housing (Which is already implemented in such a way), Hell if it gets people in the sim I would put on a pink toto and pole dance (OOCly of corse! And yes you can hold me to that)
We could do fun events like When I was in Treve me and my IC son at the time would RP using NOTHING but song lyrics it was challenging and it PISSED my FC at the time off to NO END.
Just ideas as i have another Insomnia night don't listen to me ramble I am a madman! >.> <.<
Edit: I checked the groups, we have over 160 people in the group. There is NO reason at all traffic should be as low as it is if everyone put time into the sim. Not asking people but all their time online into the sim, just saying that they should put SOME time into the sim

Yeah I think Dermot makes some good points. People come to the sim, not much going on, and they dont know what to do. The pressure of starting RP is on them. I think would help to organize some events both within the castes and for the sim. I don't mean huge feasts or fairs, but something simple to just get things started, and then before you know it, people logging in or visiting will stick around.

As things have been slowing down, I think we should add combat for the sake of drawing more people in for RP. I really want to try and preserve the RP though without it being reduced to raid + 60 min cap time + rescue, repeat, so here are a few ideas. We definitely dont need to use them all. Let me know what you guys think.
• Mod approval needed for raid (if like 2 people on sim and no mods then no raid) This could help break that cycle of raiding to start RP, which is usually just 1 hour of captive RP and then everything back to normal. We should have ongoing and developing relationships with other villages and cities.
• No raid groups, so people could only use their group or hire mercs, or make IC alliances.
• RP Only zones - Tavern, Slavers, Scribery, Brewery at the docks? Whatever we decide, I could mark with a yellow tint on the doorways or something to make it clear.
• RP only days - Maybe once a week we have a day for merchants and traders to come
• No surprise attack in middle of posting RP, so if you are para RPing with someone then they should have a chance to defend themselves. So an attacker could emote drawing their weapon ready to attack, and then wait for the other person to emote being ready, or something like that.
• If we do combat, would probably just have to be BTB in that sense. Perhaps women can RP using a weapon. This might be a decent compromise for now, so we dont have 50 GE female fighters showing up every hour, but still leaves the option to play it out in the story if their character needs to try and wield a sword, even though it would likely lead to serious consequences.

A resident of Lydius IM'ed me with an idea for the combat. I have her permission to use your IM and copy it here.
[13:14] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): i think maybe trying like raids once a day... only one raid a day... and it has to be role played out... like... no one just landing with a shit ton of people and running in... i have always thought that was silly... any combat in real life has always had a leader of sorts... like if they come for something as lame as stealing slaves... it should be role played out with like idk... say a half hour of role play ... so there is some story as to why they are there and what purpose it would serve for them to raid the city... and it should be scheduled like say... ok its monday... one raid is allowed between say idk... 3 and 5 pm sl time... no one would know exactly when it would happen... that way it makes people come to the sim the city residents... and stay to wait for it... [13:14] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): and on the website you could list everyday... and what times of day a raid would be allowed [13:15] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): and maybe make it so that it has to be cleared beforehand with a member of the city [13:15] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): that way it gives the city time to prepare... and the would be raiders [13:16] ℳahi (mahilwen.mistwalker): Thats good to me! And it is indeed a good idea in my eyes. You want me to place it on the forum for you? [13:16] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): and i think if women wanted to fight.... [13:16] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): one sec lemme finish this part [13:16] ℳahi (mahilwen.mistwalker): Sure [13:17] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): like me... i have no desire to fight... but i know some women do... and i will use vikings for example... they never took just any women to raid or fight... they only took the best of the best... if they couldnt fight like a man they was of no use... i think if women want to fight... there should be an intense roleplay for them to go thru... where they have to prove mind and body they are worthy to carry a weapon [13:18] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): but we need men in the city to actually do that kind of rp with women [13:18] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): there should be something they have to go thru to be able to carry a weapon... idk what tho [13:18] ℳahi (mahilwen.mistwalker): Yeps I agree. I have myself also no desire to fight if I am honest, but I know what you mean, Sort of '' test'' for the women, that they could carry a weapon, it can be a interesting RP for men and women. [13:19] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): idk i just think we need some sort of meter combat to spice it up [13:20] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): but like me i hate going to a sim where its always combat [13:20] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): this way it could be scheduled [13:20] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): and like [13:21] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): if our city takes caps... they would have to wait till the next scheduled day to come back and get them [13:21] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): or w/e [13:21] ωolƒу DaraKaru (nitestar.albion): maybe 3 days so then there can be proper rp with them like to do a trial or w/e

New to Lydius, not new to Gor!

Recent past suggests allowing the normal "raid, cap rinse and repeat" will only lead to what happened in Voltia Viktel. Meter bullies prevail to the detriment of the role players, end result is a huge exodus.
Going further back in the past Salernum is a better model to look upon, meter optional. Reasonably successful in traffic and remembered by many with fondness. So perhaps the sim could look along those lines.
Do we need heads of caste and the traditional model most sims use? Perhaps just role play your character and assume you are not bigger than the city as a whole? I have already had very good rp in Lydius and am pleased the sim is here to that to happen.
BTW There are pirates on the sim already, not they would proclaim that but you just might find out in rp!

I like the idea of meter optional. I think it would let those that werent interested in metered combat to avoid it. My only concern would be whether other sims would mind RPing with us if that were the case.

I don't think you should separate the woman into "good" ones and others to join any combat. Even less since it will lead to having male X adding his buddies X Y and Z to that list due to their friendship.
Just my thought.
